Ask Charles

You have probably heard that Charles George, our office manager, is leaving PVUMC June 30 after 15 years of service.  It is so sad to write this because Charles is a friend and a book of knowledge around here!  That is why you always hear, “ask Charles”.  I learned that my first week here!  The other thing I learned is when I say, “Charles”, he always responds, “I AM!”  Another common request from Charles was, “it’s in the bulletin!”

I had told Charles I wanted to do a blog on him and the most I could get out of him was that he never wanted to get glorified for this job, he wanted God to be glorified.  I think he did a great job of this.  I am sure Charles got asked more questions than anyone and most were probably asked when he was in the middle of something.  He never seemed annoyed with the interruptions.  When I called Charles and he answered the phone, he would say loudly, like he was excited, “JILL!”.  He did that to us all, even though he knew we were calling with a question or a request.  He acted like he was excited to hear from us!

I love what his wife, Dawn, shared on social media last week and she said I could share her words.  “Today is Charles George’s last Sunday on staff at PVUMC. He’s a man of few words so I want to share some things I know about him that he may not say. It has been one of the biggest blessings in his life to serve our church. Charles doesn’t express his feelings in words as much as he does in actions. Acts of service are how he shows his love to others. He loves you, PVUMC. Thank you for letting him serve you.

There are so many great friendships that were forged at PVUMC that will continue even though he won’t be there every day. It will be different, but just as PVUMC is entering a new chapter in its life, so is Charles. God has already been preparing someone to fulfill the needs of the church when Charles moves on. Trust God.”

Charles, thank you for your service here at PVUMC!  Thank you for your friendship.  I am so happy for you, Dawn and your girls to have you home more!  I know you will chuckle on Tuesday mornings at 9:30 when you don’t have to come to a staff meeting!  I am sure someone will be saying, “Ask Charles”!
