National Day of Prayer

PVMC prays for all of our government leaders and nation. Why do we pray for them? 1 Timothy 2:1-2, “I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.” The Bible commands us to pray for all people including our political leaders.

PVMC also prays for our community and local leaders. Jeremiah 29:7, “Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.” Proverbs 11:10-11, “When the righteous prosper, the city rejoices; when the wicked perish, there are shouts of joy. Through the blessing of the upright a city is exalted, but by the mouth of the wicked it is destroyed.” Our prayer group sent letters on May 4 for the National Day of Prayer to our federal, state and local government officials.

Here is a response received from one of the government officials: “To the Participants in this Ministry: For the past few years, I have received your letters of encouragement in word and scripture in the weeks before the National Day of Prayer. I wanted to take a moment and thank you for your prayers and for the encouragement you provide. This is a difficult job. The issues we deal with on a daily basis can weigh heavy on our minds and our souls. We often see the depths of the depravity of the human condition in our criminal cases. It is reassuring to me to know that there are prayer warriors like you interceding for us. I have always looked to Micah 6:8 as my guide to what a judge should be: “He has shown you, oh man, what is good and what does the Lord require of you? To act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.” I pray every day for God to give me the wisdom and discernment I need to make the correct legal decisions and for the results to be just. Thank you again for lifting your petitions to God and for your thoughtful encouragement.”
