Sisters In Song

One evening, my mom called, so excited.  She told me Craig Gross and her Sunday school came Christmas caroling to her house.  She said she sang every word with them.  Most exciting to her was that her neighbors came out and listened.  When the carolers left, her neighbors came to ask who that was and why they came.  Mom/Sylvia/Honey was so proud to tell them it was PVMC, her church.  What a witness to her unchurched neighbors.  Acts 5: 42, “Day after day, in the temple courts and from house to house, they never stopped teaching and proclaiming the good news that Jesus is the Messiah.”

I texted Craig to thank him and the group for caroling and he quickly told me he was the bus driver but they allowed him to sing.  He said it was a new ladies singing group from PVMC.  What a group mission so my next call was to Carol Stockwell who directs this mission group.  Carol is a retired music teacher who came to PVMC in 2016 from Charlotte.  She had a vision for a group of ladies, not a ladies choir who sing at church, but a group that sings outside of the church, in the community.  Acts 1: 8, “...you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”  What a wonderful outreach, ladies!

Carol wanted to do like she did when she was in youth group and go to retirement homes, nursing homes and to the homebound to carol.  These 16-18 ladies have spent the first six months learning to sing together.  (This is new to me - I just make a joyful noise!)  It took them three months to settle on a name - Sisters In Song!  It is the perfect name because they have become close and always pray together.  They truly are sisters in Christ!

I know what the caroling meant to my mom so I asked what it had meant to them.  Carol said, “It made my Christmas.  That is what Christmas is all about.  You know you’re doing something right when we see their faces.”  Thank you ladies (and Craig)!  Keep spreading God’s love!
