When the Lights Come Down

Christmas lights are one of my favorite things about Christmas, getting to turn the tree on each evening and have the glow of the lights fill the room.  Jesus is referred to as the Light of the World. John 1: 9, “The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world.”  John 8: 12, “When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.’”  John 9: 5, “While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”

It's always a little sad when Christmas is over, and decorations come down.  It's like we experience this feel-good high that crashes to the ground.  So as the Christmas decorations and lights here at church and at home are packed away, don’t forget that Jesus is the true LIGHT of the world.  In a world of pessimism and gloom there still shines a light that will not go out!  Unfortunately some of us live our spiritual life waiting for the next feel good fix.  As we unwind from Christmas, let’s don't just settle back into business as usual. Let’s be better.  Let’s have a better appreciation of Who Christ is and what He did. While we may celebrate the birth of Christ on December 25th, we should experience the life of Christ every day as He lives through us.

I love how Hank Williams talked about the light.  “Praise the Lord I saw the light.  I saw the light, I saw the light.  No more darkness, no more night.  Now I'm so happy, no sorrow in sight.  Praise the Lord I saw the light!”

Focus on seeking God and you will see the Light!
