Head Tilt

Sunday night IGNITE (In God Nothing Is Too Extreme) kicked off revival leading us in worship.  By the time we all got to sing, “Let The Light In” the words were coming alive.  “It's time for the sleeper to wake.  It's time for the old winds to change.  I hear the Spirit say, it's time.  It's time for the dead man to rise.  It's time for the Great Light to shine…Open up the windows, let the light in.  Let the light in, let the light in.”  Each time we sang, “Open up the windows, let the light in” it got louder and louder!  You could feel the presence of the Holy Spirit in that gym!  The winds had changed and there were no sleepers!

Our guest speaker, Andy Lambert, had a special prayer for Pastor Tim before he started.  Andy asked God’s blessings on Pastor Tim, his family and our church.  He sees God working in a mighty way here at PVUMC!   Andy wants us to look at Scripture with a “head tilt” - looking at it from a different angle, seeing things in another way and digging deeper.

Andy explains his preaching style as wanting people to be happy and laugh and then hit them hard with the gospel, when they least expect it.  And that is exactly what he does!  He can have you laughing so hard one moment and within seconds you are in awe of some profound statement!  He did that with his version of Goldilocks and the three bears.  He said it is human nature to want to see awe and wonder and that is why we like fairy tales.

Luke 5: 17-20, “And the power of the Lord was with Jesus to heal the sick. Some men came carrying a paralyzed man on a mat and tried to take him into the house to lay him before Jesus.  When they could not find a way to do this because of the crowd, they went up on the roof and lowered him on his mat through the tiles into the middle of the crowd, right in front of Jesus.  When Jesus saw their faith, he said, ‘Friend, your sins are forgiven.’” vs. 24-26, “So he said to the paralyzed man, “I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.” Immediately he stood up in front of them, took what he had been lying on and went home praising God. Everyone was amazed and gave praise to God. They were filled with awe and said, ‘We have seen remarkable things today.’”

We all agree the miracle was the man who was carried in and walked out.  Another miracle was forgiveness.  It could be a miracle that they found four people to help.  But as Andy pointed out, the real miracle is that God walked into that room.  He is with us and among us!  He is knocking on our door waiting for us to answer.

Our God can do remarkable things and He is still in the business of miracles!
