ILM 4 CHRIST!

As long as I can remember our family said the blessing before meals whether we were home or not.  We always said our prayers at night. My parents had a family devotional with us before school.  Before we got up for school, Mom and Dad had their devotional and quiet time.

Dr. Terry Teykl came to our church and spoke about prayer.  My mom and her friend felt convicted to begin a prayer ministry that is still going on.  Mom was part of it for thirty plus years! I think we all know how important our prayer ministries are to our church family!

Pastor Barry’s Wednesday morning Bible study had decided to take the summer off.  He said he was later convicted and decided to have one.  He chose “Acts 29” by Dr. Terry Teykl.  He ordered the books and later called to see when they would be delivered so he would know when to start the class.  Immediately someone called him back and it was Dr. Terry Teykl.  Pastor Barry shared with Pastor Tim and they decided to see if he could come do one of our “one day revivals.”

As Pastor Barry says, God’s hand was all in it!

PVUMC was blessed by Dr. Terry Teykl on the morning of July 8 for a Prayer Workshop and that night for Revival

After the singing by the Wilmington Celebration Choir and our own congregation, Dr. Teykl said PVUMC is already having revival!

He challenged us to put our foot down and claim that place for Jesus Christ!

He challenged us to claim every soul in our neighborhood and in our schools and in our city!  He said to walk through our neighborhood and claim every soul in that subdivision for Jesus Christ!

Joshua 1: 3: “I will give you every place where you set your foot, as I promised Moses.”

Some of the things that stand out by Dr. Teykl are:

  • We should have beautiful feet because that is what should be doing the work for Jesus.

  • “When the city is addressed, God is blessed.”

  • “Not a hotel but a go-tell.  If they don’t come to us we go to them.”

  • “Wilmington for Christ.”

  • “JESUS, not Jesus, JESUS - there’s something about that name.  It heals.  It casts out.  There’s power in that name!”

We are told to pray for others.

James 5: 16: "Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective."

Apostle Paul encourages us to intercede for others.

Ephesians 6: 18-20: "And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should."

In the Bible, Daniel interceded for his people when he pleaded with God to forgive them, deliver them from judgment and heal their land.  He wanted God to be glorified again.  It was a prayer for his nation's restoration and revival.

Daniel 9: 18-19: "Give ear, our God, and hear; open your eyes and see the desolation of the city that bears your Name. We do not make requests of you because we are righteous, but because of your great mercy. Lord, listen! Lord, forgive! Lord, hear and act! For your sake, my God, do not delay, because your city and your people bear your Name.”

God's people were blessed because of Daniel's intercession.

During Jesus' greatest trial, He was praying fervently, not only for Himself but for us!

Luke 22: 41-42: "He withdrew about a stone’s throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed, 'Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.'”

John 17: 20-21: "My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me."

You have probably seen the church sign of God's promise to King Solomon.

2 Chronicles 7: 14: "if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land."

I cannot think of a more needed prayer right now.

We should all be interceding for our family, our neighborhood, our city, our nation and our world! There’s just something about that name.  JESUS, not Jesus, JESUS!

Put your foot down.  Now is the day of salvation.  Claim ILM4CHRIST!
