Nine to Five
I heard a recent sermon by Dr. Charles Stanley that I felt led to share and in keeping with the sermon series, I have chosen “Nine to Five” by Dolly Parton: Working nine to five, what a way to make a living. Barely getting by, it's all taking and no giving. They just use your mind, and they never give you credit. It's enough to drive you crazy if you let it.
So many people dislike their jobs. Is this where God wants you, even for a season? If so, then we are to glorify God in all things, including our jobs, where we spend much time. Colossians 3: 23, "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord..."
As a Christian employee, if we are told to do something, we are to do it without complaining. Ephesians 5: 21, "Submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ." Philippians 2: 14-15, "'Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.' Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky." If we have agreed to work for a specific pay grade then we must hold up our bargain. Matthew 20: 13, "...I am not being unfair to you, friend. Didn’t you agree to work for a denarius?" If someone does not treat us right, know that we are learning how to treat others and every experience is used by God. He knows all and wastes nothing!
As a Christian employer, are you treating your employees right and fair? Ecclesiastes 7: 16, "Do not be over righteous, neither be overwise." We should not try to get someone as cheap as we can but be fair and be a blessing to them just as we expect them to bless the business. Luke 10: 7, "for the worker deserves his wages." Is our ego in the way? Proverbs 11: 2, "When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom." Are we glorifying God in the way we treat them? Proverbs 3: 27, "Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act." Our love for God is displayed in how we treat them.
Let’s all honor God by honoring one another.
God has the best plan for you so keep praising and glorifying Him!
