Be Born Again
July Fourth commemorates the day in 1776 that our nation declared itself to be an independent nation, and no longer a colony of England. On that date, a number of our leading citizens signed what is known as the Declaration of Independence. July Fourth is Independence Day and we celebrate the tremendous freedom we enjoy!
I try not to take freedom for granted. We live in a country where we can voice our opinions freely and can vote for the people of our choice. We can worship freely. The American flag means so much to me. I have generations of family members who have served and are serving for our country.
While July 4th is not a religious holiday, I do think it is a time to reflect on God’s goodness to us as a nation. Psalm 33: 12, “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.” America needs to bless God! I saw this on social media, “July 4, 1776 was born one nation under God. 244 years later it needs to be born again.”
If we want true and eternal freedom we need to commit our lives to God and His will. 1 Corinthians 15: 3-4, “For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,...” Jesus died to pay the price for our sins. He took my place and He took your place. Because of His death, we are made free from the death penalty of sin. We are washed clean and can stand righteous before God.
