Owning Your Faith

Loved-ones and mentors gathered to celebrate our Confirmation Class of 2023 as it comes to an end. While this is the end of the class, it is the beginning of their walk with God as 15 confirmands will be joining PVMC. The confirmands have a mentor, classes, go on a retreat and interview with the pastors to prepare for joining the church.

As an aunt, I am especially proud for my niece to profess her faith. Psalm 145:4, “One generation commends your works to another; they tell of your mighty acts.” According to the New Testament, Lois, the grandmother of Timothy, was born into the Jewish faith, and later accepted Christianity along with her daughter Eunice. 2 Timothy 1:6-9, “For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline. So do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord or of me his prisoner. Rather, join with me in suffering for the gospel, by the power of God. He has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given to us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time…”  God saw good roots in Timothy’s family. He saw it in his grandmother, mother and now him.

Confirmation begins with these roots. Maybe it was your parents, grandparents, aunt, uncle, neighbor or friend who have shown you the importance of worship. Thank You, God, for these good roots that have been planted and will stand in hard times. As Pastor Tim said at the banquet, we see genuine faith in each of these confirmands and that is why we were there. He reminded them not to let this be the end of their journey but to let these good roots take hold!

We are so proud, Confirmands, as you make your own profession of faith. We are praying that the Holy Spirit will stir up that gift of God in you so you can live out His purpose.
