Sound Doctrine
Thank you, PVUMC, for “The One Year Bible”. I agree with Pastor Tim, we will be made new in 2022! Someone sent me a note regarding a blog. “I agree with you about the closer we are to God, the bigger He is in our life. Reading my daily devotional each day has given me such peace and understanding of my Heavenly Father. I am thoroughly enjoying the daily Bible readings, too.”
Each day, I am amazed at how I can find one sentence that I have never noticed before. Scripture truly is the Living Word. When we encounter Scripture that speaks to us, we can love knowing that God is speaking through His Word, whether it is loving us, convicting us or giving us hope!
If we do not know God's Word, how can we recognize when we are not hearing the Truth? 2 Timothy 4: 3, Paul is warning Timothy, "For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear." Paul is giving advanced-warning about deceit within the Church and cautions Timothy against false teachings. Peop[le will want teachers that will assure them that all is well even when it is not. Jeremiah 6: 14, "They dress the wound of my people as though it were not serious. ‘Peace, peace,’ they say, when there is no peace."
I love what Pastor Tim said in a recent sermon. He will preach God’s Word even if he has to answer to the congregation, committees, the district superintendent, the bishop or the conference because he ULTIMATELY has to answer to Jesus Christ! Proverbs 3: 3, “Let not mercy and truth forsake you; Bind them around your neck, Write them on the tablet of your heart. Jesus says for us to have His Word in our hearts. When you read God’s Word, it is more than a church wide study. God’s Word is living as God moves it to work in our lives and make us more like Him!
“If you don’t fill your mind with the Word of God, the enemy will fill it with fear, anxiety, stress, worry and temptation.”
