"Here I Come to Save the Day!"
“Mister Trouble never hangs around when he hears this Mighty sound. ‘Here I come to save the day...’” Pine Valley United Methodist Church Pastor Tim sang this Mighty Mouse song for us Sunday online. Mighty Mouse would sing this as he came to “save the day!” The sermon gave me so much to think about during this time of uncertainty. I know God offers us hope and peace but I believe we have to do our part! He is always waiting for us and wanting to comfort us! Do we really believe that?
Psalm 46:1-7, “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging. There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells. God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day. Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall; he lifts his voice, the earth melts. The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.” This Psalm is a song for Zion, which is a holy city because God dwells in it. It reminds us that God is our true home and that is where our security is.
Psalm 46 is mostly written in third person until verse 11, “The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.” We are shown in this Psalm that God is our refuge. He is strong. He is present. He is a great help to those who are weak. God is higher than anything else. He is able to rule above all. The earth will melt at His voice! Think about those things. The earth will melt at His voice! This is powerful stuff!!! He will protect His people. The people of God are protected by our Mighty Fortress so we have nothing to fear! He will come in to save the day!
Be still‑‑for only then can you hear God's voice. Times of quietness are part of God's natural laws. Remember, even Jesus drew to a quiet spot. Luke 5:16, “But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.” When the tensions rise in our daily living, we must remember God is our refuge.
Uncertainty about our future can snowball and take a life of its own. That fear will take over our heart and mind. This causes us to become focused on ourselves. This causes us to become self absorbed and not love others as ourselves. Psalm 46 shows us not to give in to fear. Run to God and be still with Him! Remember the truths about Who He is! Keep reminding ourselves of God’s promises and truths! Read daily Matthew 6:25-27, “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?”
Matthew 6:22-23 says, “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are good, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!” This is how our fears can consume us causing us to focus on our fears instead of focusing on God. We are secure no matter what - even during the pandemic! Because of who God is, we will not fear! Be still and bow down before God, quiet your mind and trust. Mister Trouble will not hang around when he hears the sound of you calling on God to save the day!
