Happy Tithing

A member called in response to my blog, “The Blessings of Giving”. She said she doesn’t want people to be so hesitant about giving so she decided to share her experience! She had moved away from God until September 11, 2001, when she ran back to church. She began reading devotions and her Bible. They tithed 10% of what she brought home. In 2003 she lost her job.

This particular day she was reading, Malachi 3: 8, “Begin by being honest. Do honest people rob God? But you rob me day after day. ‘You ask, ‘How have we robbed you?’ ‘The tithe and the offering—that’s how!’” She said she went straight to her husband and told him they were robbing God. He asked how and she read, “‘How have we robbed you?’ ‘The tithe and the offering - that’s how!” Her husband told her to up their tithe to 10% of gross pay - before taxes, etc. This was a significant increase and they only had one income! She said, “we tested Him and we have never regretted it. And that’s been 20 years!” 

She went on to share how God has poured out so much blessing on them through their finances, health, spiritual life! Malachi 3: 10, “‘Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,’ says the Lord Almighty, ‘and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.” She said her husband was able to retire and they are so blessed!

By tithing we show our love and commitment to God. It's how we give thanks for all He has given us and it opens the door for Him to bless us abundantly. Happy tithing!
