Part of the Family

In a Thursday night service we sang, “The Family of God” by the Gaithers.  The gym was full and you could feel the love in that room and you could feel God’s Presence in a mighty way!  I love the words to this song:  “For I'm part of the family ; the family of God.  You will notice we say brother and sister 'round here; it's because we're a family and these folks are so near.  When one has a heartache, we all share the tears, and rejoice in each victory in this family so dear”

As Christians, we are all part of the family of God.  John 1: 12-13, “ Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.”  We feel a sense of belonging.  We are loved, cherished, and fully forgiven.  As Christians, God has adopted us into His family and we are God’s beloved children.  1 John 3: 1, “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!”

I thought about all of the brothers and sisters I have at PVUMC!  I came here feeling so “new” and hoping to find some familiar faces.  As I got involved, I felt a part of the family.  Sometimes we have to get out of our comfort zones to meet new people.  Several of the ladies in our Upper Room Wednesday night class came to make friends.  God’s family is often more deeply connected than other relationships, even families.  We share a spiritual unity through Jesus!

I would say our class is more than friends, we are like sisters.  We may not have picked each other, we may not hang out and we may have nothing in common, but our bond is special.  We really are family.

In keeping with the current sermon series, “We are family.  I’ve got all my sisters and me!”
