Freely Worshiping
I had a sermon preached to me by the woman across the aisle from me at church. We sang, “Lion” by Elevation Worship and Sarah was worshiping, with voice and arms, as she sang, “Prepare the way Prepare the way of the Lord O valley, be raised up O mountain, be made low…” She was singing and waving her arms to the words!
My heart was so full I could not sing. I knew she had been going through some health issues and yet she praised like she was the most joyful person in that service! She was the poster child for Psalm 100: 4, “Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.” She worshiped so freely! I shared my feelings with her and she said, “Jesus is my all and all. He deserves all my worship because He has been so good to me. He is truly my JOY! Six months ago I did not know if I would live due to health issues. She wanted me to share that her hair loss is due to alopecia areata which she was diagnosed with at the age of three. “This diagnosis has not held me back one bit. The Lord has helped me embrace my hair loss by developing my identity as a daughter of Christ!” She is a child of God!
There have been times when I have wanted to lift my hands in praise, but I didn’t due to self- consciousness or because I didn’t want someone with me to be uncomfortable. I know I didn’t leave church as refreshed as I could have. I think of David, in the Bible, who was famous, wealthy, brave and a respected king. He danced, not holding back, despite how he looked or what others thought of him! We are to focus on God, showing Him our thankfulness and praise! Let us worship and praise like no one is watching!
