Together We Make a Difference

Each of us is like a snowflake, like no other.  On our own, we can’t make a big difference but when each of us fragile snowflakes stick together, we can stop traffic!  Together we can make a big difference even if each one of us is doing one small part!

I have fond memories of going to Vacation Bible school as a kid and I have fond memories of my kids going and me volunteering.  It was an important part of my spiritual life at a young age. Why did I enjoy helping with VBS?  I want other children to have the same opportunity that both my children and I had.  I also loved the fellowship.

It was wonderful to see so many children attend PVUMC’s VBS but I also love seeing the enthusiastic adults helping.  In Ecclesiastes 4:9, God tells us, Two people are better than one, because they get more done by working together” (NCV). Not only do we get more done together but we do have more fun!  Our church is a body, a family.  We need our church and our church needs us.  The more committed we are to our church, the more blessed we are by it.

Bible school goes far beyond one week for those children and the volunteers!  Ephesians 2: 10, “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”  On most Sundays we pass each other with maybe a quick hello unless someone is in a small group with us.  Bible school is a week of serving together in close contact!  People met new friends, created bonds and formed relationships.  Adults also connected with children as well as their parents from our community who may not attend PVUMC.  And our children learned about God’s love and how precious they are!

During Bible School we partnered in several ministry projects.  We collected school supplies for Pine Valley Elementary School and we helped replenish the pantry at Nourish NC by collecting foods.  We raised enough money to build a new well to be built in Capoey, Guyana!  Together we make a difference!
