Camp Fun

I love talking to people about why they serve at camp. It is very hot, sometimes it rains and it has been known to be cold. There is a lot of sand and no air conditioning. There are bugs and brown water to swim in. So why do these adults want to go to camp? Proverbs 22:6, “Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.” Patrick said he went for 15 years growing up and now he wants to give back. Chase began camp at six and now serves as a counselor because he loves spending time with kids. My mom, 89, works in the kitchen one day a week during camp. She can’t stand for long so she works sitting in a high chair and loves it! As someone said, it is up to us to continue the tradition.

Vespers are a draw to many people, sitting on the pier and watching the sunset. There was a cool breeze and the sun peeked out of the clouds just in time for our devotion. Pastor Chris shared the importance of inviting someone to church and challenged us to go home renewed and excited to share the Good News of Jesus! The Son was shining through those clouds too!

The kids like free time with their friends. They walk on the trails, with leaders of course. At night you can find them stargazing on the dock. They enjoy crafts and always enjoy the food. They all love having a MAC (met at camp) when a youth and child partner up for the week! Ecclesiastes 4:12, “Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken. Years ago camp was in Kinston where they had air conditioning, a gym, putt-putt, grass, a pool and a lake that would soon have swings and slides. Many of the youth called it Camp No Fun! If you ask the right people, Singletary is Camp Fun!
