Worshiping in the Woods

My mom and a friend went with me to Camp Singletary for a day to help in the kitchen and hang out. On the way home we talked about the wonderful fellowship.  Mom said being in the woods was one of the best parts!  There is something extra special about being in God’s creation!  We walked  through trees that were budding, listened to the birds serenade us and saw every shade of green imaginable surrounding the sun sparkled lake.  We saw beautiful sun shine and definitely felt the heat although not as bad as some years!

Nature makes us want to declare God’s glory, goodness and love for us.  We are able to slow down, open our hearts and our eyes and soak in the beauty that God has made.  We are in His presence!

Nehemiah 9: 6, “You alone are the Lord. You made the heavens, even the highest heavens, and all their starry host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them. You give life to everything, and the multitudes of heaven worship you.”

Vespers, the evening service, is held on the pier overlooking the cross.  As Vespers began the clouds made a nice canopy of shade and then all of a sudden the setting sun burst out to make the most beautiful backdrop!  The sunsets are breathtaking with every color of pink, gold, orange, yellow and every color in between. Psalm 19: 5, “In the heavens God has pitched a tent for the sun. It is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, like a champion rejoicing to run his course.”  In the most tangible ways God speaks to us through His creation.

Just like when I was in youth, our youth sing, “Pass It On” at Vespers, “I’ll shout it from the mountain top – PRAISE GOD!  I want the world to know The Lord of love has come to me, I want to pass it on.”  When we sing, “I’ll shout it from the mountain top” everyone shouts, “PRAISE GOD” and then gets quiet.  Throughout God’s creation we hear, “PRAISE God, praise God” in the echo.

Isn’t that what camp is all about?  Praising God, soaking in God’s love and wanting to pass it on?  We serve at camp and invite people to camp because we wish this joy for them that we have found. Thank You, God, for Your supernatural ways that have blessed all that are involved with summer camp.  All glory and honor is Yours!
